It really bothers me when people, especially the youth and young adults, are on their cell phones, iphone, or whatever they have literally every chance they get. I am not necessarily against the usage of cell phones or other technology, but I am against ignoring living things because of technology, which are not alive.
A recent real life experience inspired me to make my propaganda poster about this topic. I was waiting for class to start when literally almost every classmate was on his or her phone, not even noticing the surroundings and people around them! I couldn't even attempt to communicate with anyone, because they would not look up at all until it was the exact time to go into class. I think this is very unhealthy, because we will begin to lose simple social skills and conversational skills if the youth continue on this path.
In my image you can see a boy obviously hugging a girl, but not really hugging her. He is instead paying attention to his phone with even his headphones in his ears, while this girl is just hopelessly in his arms. I chose this image, because the boy seems to be in his own world, ignoring the girl, while the girl seems to have given up and lost hope in him. I specifically created this propaganda poster in the style of a public service announcement. So, I intentionally made the image less artsy and full of depth, so the viewer can immediately understand the message and content. I want these texting zombies to be able to immediately understand the poster when they look at it. This is why I chose a more simplistic image. What mattered to me is simplicity and text.
I also chose the gloomy and dull background to show how his world is no longer alive, so to speak, but rather technological and unreal. I wanted to use this image and background to depict what I feel is happening with our youth, or even adults, nowadays: TOO MUCH ATTACHMENT TO PHONES/TECHNOLOGY!
This is a 36" by 48" poster.
