Illustrator Project
Hi guys! So I really wanted to focus on our class theme "Our Mutable World" and also zero in on our sub-theme "Survival of the Fittest" for this project, so I chose to depict Charles Darwin's quote, "It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change" by use of this image. All I did was a lizard on the back of a business man. Why a lizard, you ask? Well, I chose the lizard because, in nature, they are well known to camouflage to their surroundings. It's also a fact that man is pretty much the dominant species of Earth, so I feel that the animals that will thrive most next to man will be the ones that can adapt to whatever humans do. Consequently, this lizard will survive because it evolved to match the suit of this man so that he won't be able to see it so that it may be able to live on and survive.
On a technical aspect, all I did to create this image was take a photo of a lizard and dramatically lowered the opacity so that the color of the businessman's suit was able to seep through. I also cloned many colors of the suit and re-created the pattern on the lizard just to add three-dimension to its form. The original photo of the businessman had a white background so I had a tough time converting that to black and, in turn, was forced to blur the edges of the actual suit; I think that's the aspect that I like least of this entire project. Hopefully I'll be able to master this technique and have better luck with the next image. :)
