INTRODUCTION
My name is Jocylyn Engstrom and I am twenty years old. This is my third year of college, but my first at Arizona State University. The first two years of college were spent at Chandler-Gilbert Community College where I finished my generals and left to focus on my majors, animation and English Literature. I was born in Chandler and raised here as well as in Pinetop and Ahwatukee. Though when I was fifteen, my aunt and my uncle were stationed in Paris, France and offered to let me with them for year.
I am looking to build my portfolio and enrich it with digital art, especially since I have no experience with photoshop. The lack of experience has been a detriment and I hope to change that. I am proficient with pen and ink and enjoy exploring creative alternatives, especially in subject matter.
ARTIST BIO
I am not unique in my assertion that I too was inspired by Disney as a child. It began with the film and ended with the credits; once they finished rolling, a short clip on how the film was made revealed storyboards and animators and large tables where colossi would shoot ideas back and forth. The clip was entrancing. Not only would I rewatch the films for the rest of my life, but enjoy the creative process as well.
In my teens, I found Salvador Dali. I was not aware of how much of an icon he was when I found him, or that he is to surrealism what the Beatles is to pop. It doesn't matter though, I love Dali and have difficulty describing my passion for him. My art has always been a little "something", but I could never put my finger on it until I found out about surrealism. Surrealism is a vast, entrancing world though and something that I will continue to explore throughout my art career.
Finally, I love novels, films, and video games and would love to participate in any of those creative industries.
