Intro
Hi, my name is Amena Kamel, and I am 18 years old. I was born in Manhattan, New York but raised in Tempe, Arizona. I graduated from the high school, Chandler Preparatory Academy. It is quite a hard core school, academically. Thus, I am quite a nerd because of it. I attended this high school from seventh grade to senior year. They did not offer much of the Arts, or at least technology/modern based Arts like Photography, Digital Media, or Film, so I tried to pursue and practice these realms of Art outside my school. It was pretty hard to do, because my high school was so demanding academically. I would literally spend about 4-5 hours each day during the school week for school work in addition to the hours at school.
I kind of had to just put my artistic endeavors on hold for high school. This is why I chose Arizona State University at the end, because it has quite a reputable and impressive Arts program, specifically Photography and FIlm, and I needed to finally get to my art. Enough with the Calculus and Physics for me, it's time to do what I truly love: Art. Not that I didn't enjoy Calculus, for Calculus is my most favorite mathematics course...but it's time to do what makes me truly happy and what I'm really good at. In addition, I received the AIMS scholarship, which pays for my tuition. Thus, ASU was the perfect fit.
I am currently a freshman at ASU's Herberger Institute as an Art Studies major, but I'm working towards a dual major of Photography and English (Creative Writing). Love for the Arts is not a brand new thing for me. I have literally always been completely immersed into the Arts since the age of like two years old. I really think I couldn't live without Art, or at least I couldn't live happily. I do everything artsy from composing music to painting to filmmaking to photography to Writing! My top picks, however, are composing music, photography, and writing (specifically novel writing and screenwriting). I hope to one day make a successful career in photography while writing novels and screenplays on the side. Right now, I'm just going with the flow of things and waiting to see where life takes me.
