Concept
I wanted to highlight the poetry behind the subtle movements and stillness of creatures by focusing on their moments of unremarkable behavior. Many of these zoo animals were chosen for being perceived as lesser exhibits that one might not immediately associate with a trip to the zoo, and it's this attribute of being too small, too ugly, or too imperfect that interested me in framing their existence. Coupled with this specific music, I intended the video to remove any sense of apathy or disgust towards these creatures, and instead instill the viewer with a sense of compassion and empathy for the life shown here, and hopefully a bit beyond the camera towards all forms of life.

Technical
The video was filmed at 24fps with a Canon T2i DSLR along with an EF100-300 1:4.5-5.6 telescopic lens and an EF100mm 1:2.8 macro lens. A tripod was manually rotated for shots including movement and panning. Image stabilization was utilized in post-production to compensate for the lack of rolling equipment, as was minor color correction.
Music
The audio is an excerpt from the song, "The Day the World Went Away" by Trent Reznor, and was chosen for its sense of contemplative beauty, isolation, and nostalgia.
