I think I like this artist so much due to the fact of why he actually creates his art. He started doing propaganda and pop art due to famine how it affected his family and spreading the news of what’s really going on in his home country. His art truly has a good meaning and the ideas are are all about promoting truths that people would only to come find out about them by someone who has actually been through them. His art is humorous in the sense that he’s poking fun at his past leader and the communist type things that are going on in North Korea. Numerous amounts of people are dying from famine in that country and Song Byeok is trying to point that out by making pop art. His artwork gives off a very timeless feel due to the fact of his whimsical painting style, minimalism and lack of intensive detail. It’s easy to look at and enjoyable at the same time. I may not know exactly what the work is about when I first glance at it, but the more I look the more I start to like it. A lot of his pieces promote freedom, which is relatable to anyone, anywhere in the country. I tried finding his propaganda artwork but I couldn’t seem to find any which is kind of weird and makes me think that his artwork might just be kept within the boundaries of North Korea, which is disappointing but I would love to see some of his earlier works. The videos about this artist are also interesting to watch.
