I found Chris Burden on my search for a performance artist and he does some crazy pieces that are quite controversial at the same time. He did a performance called Shoot where he sent out invitations for a reception and when everyone showed up, Burden walked in the room and had an assistant shoot him in the arm. This happened when the Vietnam War was going on so it may have been about that. All of his work is very unique and nothing I've ever really seen before. It's insane to me how he'll put himself in danger for art and to get his opinions and points across to the public. It's definitely a different and almost eerie way to get a message across but it's quite powerful. -Dana Morton

I actually watched this video in my Intermedia Practices class last week! Crazy stuff, man! Afterwards we actually had a massive debate on whether not what he did was really art; it was a very heated argument, and I definitely saw where both sides were coming from. But anyways, yeah this raised a lot of hooplah in the art world and inspired hundreds of artists and people to really think about how sheltered our lives can be sometimes. I'm glad you touched up on this particular subject!

I've heard of this performance time and time again and it's always seemed a bit gruesome to me, but I've never seen it until now. There's something really strange about watching a man get shot as part of a performance. I feel like the message is really strong but a lot of the impact is lost by only seeing it on video. The sound doesn't startle you or resonate in the room.
