My project is installing a speaker and iPod Nano in the east staircase area of Arizona State University’s Tempe Campus Art Building that will play nature sounds throughout the day. This installment is intended for students and faculty that use the stairs rather than the elevators. The purpose of this project is to promote exercise and health awareness for the students and faculty of ASU. Ideally, this installment will encourage more people to take the stairs available to them rather than the elevators so that they are able to listen to soothing sounds provided by Mother Nature.
The procedure to install such a project is fairly simple; only one quality speaker and iPod Nano are needed (the sound will travel throughout all of the correlating floors due to the absence of barriers), an outlet in order to provide energy for the electronic devices, and a metal cage that will refrain possible thefts from occurring.
In an ideal world, if financing this installment was not an issue, I would purchase a Philips Fidelio DS3000 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock and used iPod Nano containing nature sounds set on non-stop Shuffle. A metal cage purchased from Home Depot (similar to metal cages that protect suspended school projectors) will be fitted around the speaker dock and iPod Nano and sealed with a lock. A connecting wire will run to the nearest outlet available in order to feed energy to the installment.
Unfortunately, since I'm broke like a joke, I tried purchasing a portable speaker for a reasonable price in order to attempt this installation. The sound quality isn't that amazing, however, so it's really disheartening. I love the idea of this installation, though!
